Donate a Mobility Aid

Thank you for offering to donate medical equipment to the Mobility Aids Lending Library in Bloomington, IN. Here’s what you need to know before contacting us:

  • We are a small, volunteer-based organization. We try to respond promptly, but it can take 1 to 2 weeks to arrange dropoff or pickup of donations.
  • Donors must drop off most equipment at our location. We can only pick up large items such as electric wheelchairs that won’t fit in a standard vehicle. We can only pick up items within Monroe, Owen, Morgan, Lawrence, Greene, and Brown counties. Pickups outside Monroe County may take some time to arrange.
  • All donations are tax-deductible. We can provide a receipt on request.

Items We Accept

  • Canes and quad canes, forearm crutches
  • Rollators (walkers with seats)
  • Manual wheelchairs — any type and size
  • Mobility scooters and power wheelchairs — must be in working condition or only need batteries
  • Hoyer lifts, sit-to-stand lifts, and hoists
  • Shower chairs and benches
  • Commodes, toilet seat risers, etc. — must be cleaned prior to donation.
  • Small transfer devices such as sliding boards, grab bars, etc.
  • Pediatric equipment, including standers, gait trainers, adapted strollers, etc.
  • Unopened packages of adult diapers and bed pads
  • Unopened oxygen cannulas, tubing, CPAP masks
  • Other items — just ask!

Items We Are Temporarily Not Accepting

We sometimes accept these items, but currently have too many and can’t take more. We recommend disposing of underarm crutches, used commodes, and toilet seat risers, as there is no shortage of them available to those in need.

  • Underarm/standard crutches
  • Regular walkers that don’t have seats
  • Knee, leg, and foot braces

Items We Never Accept

  • Air casts/walking boots
  • Hospital beds — we don’t have space to store them
  • Lift chairs/recliners — due to space limitations
  • Syringes
  • Badly damaged devices

Winter Weather Delays

If you are contacting us during the winter months, December through March, please be aware that it may take longer to arrange appointments. All of our staff and most of our volunteers have physical disabilities, so we’re often unable to go out in snow and sub-freezing temperatures. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Thank you!
